Imposition of Stamp Duty on Sellers for Sale of Residental Property

On Friday, 19 February 2010, the Singapore government has announced that Seller’s Stamp Duty (SSD) will be payable by Sellers of residential properties which are acquired (or purchased) on or after 20 February 2010 and disposed of (or sold) within 1 year from the date of acquisition.

No Change in Property Sales Tax Law

The Singapore Government has decided not to change the current income tax framework with regard to individuals who sell their properties. Currently, property sellers do not pay tax on gains unless the IRAS deems them as property traders and treats the gains as income.
