At some point in our lives, we may decide to change our names for various reasons. The number of individuals in Singapore changing names in their NRICs has been steadily increasing over the last 10 to 20 years. Deed Poll is one of the commons methods to change one's name in his identity card.
For foreginers (non-Permanent Resident) in Singapore, some foreign embassies in Singapore do recognise a Singapore Deed Poll as a means of changing their nationals' names in their passports.
Please note that a Deed Poll has to be signed in the presence of a practising lawyer in Singapore, and a Deed Poll does not authomatically change one's name in his NRIC.
